What we can do
Rodrill can make your drill rig work faster by increasing its on the job mobility. We will
mount your truck mounted drill rig on tracks. No more lost time pulling your rig out of the
mud or making expensive driveline repairs. We can do conversions on your LDH, LLDH, Watson,
or Texoma drill rig. If it goes on a truck, we can put it on tracks.
One of our customers recently told us about a comment a general contractor had made at a pre-construction meeting about one of his drill rigs, an LDH. The general contractor said, "Which rig are you bringing? I hope you aren't bringing that big green pig you brought to the last job we did together. We sure got tired of dragging it around the job site for you." Rodrill mounted that rig on tracks. Now the customer's crews call that rig the "taxicab" because it will take them anywhere they want to go.
How we do it
Here's what goes into a track mount conversion. To reduce cost, we begin with a set of used
John Deere excavator tracks. The tracks are completely disassembled and all the parts are
inspected for wear and damage to John Deere specifications. The parts and assemblies inspected
include the turntable bearing, slewing ring, inner final drives, outer final drives, drive
sprockets, track rollers, idler rollers, track rails, swing gear boxes, counter balance
valves, and the track accumulators. All worn and or damaged parts that do not meet
specifications are replaced. The rotary manifold and swing motors are rebuilt. New
track motors are installed. A tilting slide frame assembly is then mounted on top of
the turntable bearing deck plate. This frame has a minimum of 8 degrees travel for rig
leveling. We make all the necessary drill rig modifications to put your rig on tracks.
Depending on the type of drill rig, this usually includes extending the frame to mount a
hydraulic tank and a counter weight if necessary. An additional or larger hydraulic pump
is installed. All necessary hydraulic plumbing is installed including a swing valve,
two track valves, counter balance valves, swing brake valve, track brake valve, oil
cooler, hydraulic filters and hoses. At this time, many customers also replace their
mechanical service winch for a more reliable and safer hydraulic winch.
